James McGeehan & Margaret McKiernan

James McGeehan was identified as a surviving brother, living in Hazleton, in the obituaries of Rose, Hugh, and Susan McGeehan.   His death certificate identifies his father as Edward McGeehan, consistent with the identification in Daniel McGeehan’s DC, but his mother’s name was not given.  His obituary could provide more clarity but unfortunately the Hazleton newspapers for 1916, the year of his death, do not appear to have survived.

James was born in Ireland about 1836, according to census records and his death certificate, and he arrived in the United States in the 1850s.  He married Margaret McKiernan about 1866, probably in Hazleton where they spent the rest of their lives.  Their son, Edward J., became a well-respected doctor in the greater Hazleton area; James’s nephew Edward J. Gough, was named after his uncle and also became a doctor.

We know little more about this family than these basic facts at this point.
